Tantalizing Tulips!

Most of our tulips have shed their pretty petals by now, with the exception of a lovely late pink clump, but I wanted to show you a few of the many pictures I took of their colorful, cheery blooms.
They began blooming on May 6th, while the daffodils were still putting on their show. Posted by Picasa

The colors of this beauty are really striking.

On a cloudy day the blooms stay closed, but still look pretty.

Here's a long view of our north lawn.
Rosy red!

I love all their beautiful, bold colors.

This bright red clump began blooming around May 9th. They've been coming back for years, while some peter out after just a year or two. Posted by Picasa

The last of the daffodils and hyacinths were still hanging on bravely here (Picture taken on May 10th).

Looking south

I love to lay on the grass and photograph tulips from below. People driving by must think I'm quite mad! :) Posted by Picasa

This lovely couple are the last surviving Red Emperors.

They're bold and bright with their black throats Posted by Picasa

I'm sad to see only a few purples left. I'll have to plant more in the fall.

The yellows are very consistent and don't seem to diminish as the years go by.

As I'm not a big fan of red and yellow together, I actually like the reds better without the daffodils. This photo was taken on May 14th. There were still a few daffodils blooming in other gardens.
The reds bloom for quite a while. Posted by Picasa

But the fringed purplish-pink tulips get the prize for the longest blooms! They finally lost their petals just a couple of days ago.

And finally we have this lovely late pink clump, blooming with the creeping phlox (subulata, or moss phlox).

I think I planted 8 of these bulbs last year. They've multiplied well. Posted by Picasa

There are many other things blooming at the moment and I've been having lots of fun with the camera. The lilacs are gorgeous this year, but there are no blooms at all on the red crab apples. The apple trees had very few blooms too. We must've had a killing frost at a crucial time, which killed most of the buds.
The Bleeding Hearts (Dicentra) are out of this world this year! I'll post pictures of them next time.

I hope all my fellow Americans had a happy Memorial Day

Morning bells sound their call.
Pause and say a prayer for all -
All who served valiantly
that men might be ever free.

Kate Englehardt Clark

I offer grateful thanks to all our heroes, past and present,
who fought, or are fighting, for our freedom.

God bless America!

Postcard Worthy Pictures !!! I, too love that last none. Last time I went picture taking with my daughter, she laid down to get goose and swan pictures from down under. LOL... No one even paid any attention. I love spring in your yard.

Lovely, as usual. All your hard work pays off in beautiful flowers and a gorgeous landscape.

I hope your Memorial Day holiday was safe and happy (as was ours).

You really do have some beautiful tulips, Kerri - the garden scene formed by the light pink tulips, Phlox sublata and the lamium is my favorite.

I'm sorry to hear the crapapples didn't bloom this year, but sure am glad the lilacs and bleeding hearts came through okay.

Kerri, your gardens are so splendid! I especially like the fringed tulips. It looks like they have a blue color on the inside? Just gorgeous!

Hi Kerri, I'm not sure if you need names for your tulips or not, but I think your fringed purplish-pink tulips must be 'Blue Heron'. I have them in my garden too. And I agree with you that you need to plant more of the dark purple tulips! They are beautiful, aren't they? That picture of the pink tulips and phlox takes the cake, though!

After tulips come poppies, then soon enough it will be daylily season. Of course I can't wait. ;-)

Hello Kerri.
Left a long message for you earlier and don't know what happened but it's not here- possibly left it on another comment box-lol. That's me at the moment l'm afraid- too tired to know which way to look-lol.
Anyway l wanted to say sorry l've been away for a bit- lots going on this side of the water. Beautiful pics- my neighbour always does the Tulips although ours are past now.
One month and a half back l bought a Christmas rose- saw it in the garden centre and it reminded me of you- l call it Kerri :)
Hope all has been ok your end
hugs and bests xx

Kerri, I am having a hard time here to pick the prettiest one, the fringed and the pink ones are gorgeous, but the other ones they all have something special about them, whether the mixed colors or their black throats. The background is so beautiful, I imagine living there is like living in paradise. I had to laugh at you laying on the grass to photograph them, people sure think we're nuts, hheeh. Take care, xoxoxo

You are brave to ignore the passers-by! I just hold the camera low down and hope for the best. Lovely shots - and I agree its nice to see the surrounding countryside too. I keep thinking of your long winters and how we all must live the colours of summer to the full. Thanks.

Dear Kerri,
How I'd love to "tip toe through the tulips" with you!
Each picture is prettier than the one before and I had a real giggle visualizing you laying down on the ground to get the best shot. What we do all in the name of blogging!
Hope you're enjoying lots of gorgeous sun. It's been simply lovely here.
xoxox
with you!

love the tulips, pity they so fleeting. my neighbors are fairly used to me lying on the grass to photograph things, it only causes pause when I do it other places, often!

Hi Kerri. love the mix of your red Tulips mixed amongst the daffodils, And I must say I have never seen pink ones.they have to be my favorites here.

Your tulips are really gorgeous and I like the way you plant them in clumps instead of in rows that I often see elsewhere.

I'm glad someone else lays down on the grass to take pictures. I sometimes wonder what the neighbors might think of me, but they have gotten used to me carrying my camera around and know exactly what I'm doing, because they tell me so. hehehe

Kerri, you've had some stunning tulips this year, I especially like the last shot of the pink ones. I also like your "long view", my long view is about 20 feet!

Merle said...[Reply]

Hi Kerri ~~ Your tulips are so lovely and you have so many. Thanks for sharing their beauty with us. I
can't choose a favorite because they are all so beautiful, as are the daffodils and the hyacinths I saw.
Take care, Love, Merle.

Oh, I am already looking forward to admiring the photos of your bleeding heart! It's one of my favourite spring flowers, look at my new profile pic... :-))

Your tulips are so nice and pretty, thanks for the tour!

BTW, yesterday I planted my first little white marigolds out in my white and blue border, can't wait to see them in bloom soon! How are your ones doing?

Have a wonderful Sunday Kerri!

Best wishes from Germany,
Anita

Kerri, I love the tulips! I notice you have green grass; all we have here is brown because of the fires and drought - it is sad to see. I LOVED the photos of the fawn - but where was "mommy deer"? What a sweet baby! Maybe you could tame it, but I guess it would eat all your beautiful flowers!

Diana LaMarre said...[Reply]

Isn't it sad to see all the tulips go? Now we have to wait 11 more months to see them again.

I can't believe how those pink ones multiplied for you, Kerrie! Tulips never multiply for me. I am lucky to get half the amount the following year.

You must have the magic touch!

Lovely flowers! I liked the pink fringed tulips very much. I also liked your game....I'm a sunflower! LOL

O! Kerri hello to you, dial up is the biggest pain in the but! here in this littel country town, but I have managed today to get most of your lovely photos and am so pleased to see the tulips and the dear little fawn.

You live in a very special part of the world and to share it with us is "the best"

when I get broadband and everything runs much faster I will be pleased. tonight dial up is at a rate of 24.2kpbs and that makes it hard to see photos.

best wishes to you.
