Snowy Thanksgiving

Winter seems to have settled in on this Thanksgiving.
No new snow fell for our holiday, but we've had quite enough during the past week to paint the landscape a peaceful, snowy white.

On Tuesday morning the tree branches were decorated with a frosty covering of snow, making the drive to work a magical experience. Our school was on a one-hour delay because of the icy and snowy roads.

During the short trip I saw 3 vehicles that had slid off the road. I doubt they were appreciating the beauty of the snow.

Just a few leaves still cling bravely to the big maple.

This little Junco is one of many birds filling their tummies against the winter chill.

Mourning Doves clean up the seed under the feeders. Good little housekeepers! Posted by Picasa

The outdoor wood furnace is a workaholic!

The pink garden's spirea bush is a mound of snowy white, it's bright fall colors just a lingering memory. Posted by Picasa

Jasmine sits on my husband's desk and watches the birds through the window, whiskers twitching.

Goldfinches busily eat the seeds of Rudbeckia triloba...a good thing because it spreads seeds alarmingly, and I have yet to deadhead it. I'll have plenty of seedlings to weed out in the spring, so eat lots little birds! (Click to enlarge for detail. There are 3 birds in the picture) Posted by Picasa

Yesterday I baked cranberry-orange nut bread.

Yum!

And a pumpkin pie for my dear husband.

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin.
God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied;
Come to God's own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.

Happy Thanksgiving
to all my American blog friends.

And grateful thanks to all my blog friends the world over, for your sweet gift of friendship.

Kerri,

I hope you and R. had a nice Thanksgiving. The snow stopped here for the day so I could get out! Your pictures are beautiful.

Kerri,

Your farm always looks like a picture perfect postcard to me. You could print up calendars! :-)

Jasmine is such a cutie. The birds appreciate those seeds on the flowers you left for them.

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! I can almost smell that pie and bread.

Take care,
Cameron

So lovely - everything always looks so clean and fresh after a new snow. We've got quite a bit coming down this morning and my children are SO excited!

By the way Kerri, I'm having a Christmas giveaway on my blog this week - a handmade tree ornament I designed. I'd love it if you could pop over and put in an entry. It should be lots of fun!

We are still quite a ways away from snow, so enjoying your beauty. Happiest of Thanksgivings!

Hoping you had a very happy Thanksgiving,as well. Little Jasmine looks so content to look out at the birds.

I haven't cut down my Rudbeckias or Cosmos either, knowing how much some of the birds depend on them for food. Well, at least that's my excuse for being a lazy gardener this autumn!

It does look like winter has taken over your landscape Kerri. Thank you for the Thanksgiving wish.

I thought you were taking black and white photos until I came to the ones of the birds...lol.

Beautiful winter photos, which I look at with awe, thinking how much I'd like to see it but not have to live in it.

That last photo is an absolute winner - the cat with the snowy pumpkins is beautiful.

I hope that workaholic furnace just keeps on right through the winter.

Do take care on the roads, won't you, Kerri? No more whiteouts like last year - thank you very much!!!

Youe snowy pictures are so pretty. You make snow look like something to be desired! I like it the first few days but after that I get cabin fever. I live on a hill and the road is too slick for me. I hate the feeling when I lose control and slide sideways back down the hill. Too much like a crazy carnival ride ti me!
Your baking looks scrumptious! Maybe I will bake something tomorrow after I bake my bread.
Stay warm Kerri.

Wow, Kerri, all that snow looks so pretty and peaceful. I wish my tropical blood could bear being in such cold weather.
And that is the most vividly coloured pumpkin I've ever seen! It looks gorgeous in the snow.

The snow looks beautiful. I always love it because it makes everything look so clean and new. It's too bad that you still have to drive to school in it. Here they close schools at the sight of the first snowflake on the road.:)

Your cranberry-orange nut bread sounds & looks delicious. It's also very colorful.

Goodness, that looks cold. This is perhaps one of the few of your posts that makes me not want quite so much to have your life!

Happy belated Thanksgiving.

The same right back to you. We always seem to have the same weather! Our snow has now turned to rain and fog, but the family all got home safe. The junco picture is a winner!!

It's Monday and I'm just seeing your beautiful, snowy post, Kerri and hope your weekend was a good one.

Thanks for telling us to click on the photo of the rudbeckia - loved the way the birds can cling to dine.
Pumpkin pie and cranberry-orange nut bread are essentials here, too.

winter wonderland! we had the first real snow of the season yesterday........it was beautiful as it first fell lightly and softly and then ever so briskly and it never stopped I think till this morning.....we saw a few cars too whoch had slid off and one semi-.........it's dangerous but yet so beautiful....i am so tempted to take a walk in the woods though am nursing a cold....:)

that pumpkin pie looks so delish, Kerri and are those cranberrys from WI or MA? We visited cranberry bogs here in Wisconsin this summer and they told us so proudly how they have been trumping MA in their cranberry production for a few years now to be the the largest producer of cranberries in the country :)

Every time I saw a red barn clad in snow yesterday, I thought of your farms :)

Hope you had a beautiful Thanksgiving, Kerri.

Jasmine is a real beauty! I love the photo of the junco. And that snow...we have yet to have a ground covering - just light flurries off and on for a few days last week and tonight. I actually would like to have some now!

Kerri wonderful snowy images of your surroundings in the woods..I can't pick a favorite but I always smile when I see one of your many cats.
I'm coming by after you cleaned up your Thanksgiving celebration...you show us many of your blessings each post.

Hi Kerri! I'm glad I stopped by tonight. Another blogger to make my day--I get to LOOK at the beautiful snow but don't have to DEAL with it! But, it is so pretty in a picture! Truth be told, I would like to get some snow to make it feel more wintery, more 'christmasy'...it just seems kind of fall-like here without it. Enjoy it now, before the joy turns to annoyance!! Hope your Thanksgiving was nice:) Jan

I'm late getting here, but I hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving. I enjoy looking at your snow - but I don't want it here. LOL

Sorry I am so late in posting - having a catch up day! It was so good to see the same Tupperware bowl in the photo that I still use every day. I had a set of six, and even got one replaced for free a few years ago when the top plastic layer started to lift at the bottom of the bowl! The lids are still intact too. They must be twenty years old now!

I've just seen that I missed to read this post around Thanksgiving Day! We've winter too, everything is covered with snow. What do I see on your kitchentable? Pumpkin pie....mmmh...I'm so fond of it, but rarely bake one. Actually I am busy baking all the different Christmas cookies for my family.
Have a lovely Sunday, dear Kerri!
