Photo Friday with a Friend

Last Friday was spent in a very pleasant way....You'll notice on my sidebar a link to "Photos-Judith Polakoff"
Judith and I have been communicating by e-mail and sometimes phone, since we discovered that we live only about an hour apart here in upstate NY. She takes the most amazing photographs, which you'll love seeing when you click the above link. I'm really hoping she'll post a few of the photos she took.
Several weeks ago Judith suggested that we get together and take some pictures of the Fall foliage, which I thought was a wonderful idea! We finally managed to do that last Friday, a little late for the peak colors, but we did find some leftover patches here and there.
She came over to our farm and we wandered around, but didn't really find a lot of color left here. This first picture was taken as we walked back from the river.
The weather didn't cooperate very well, unfortunately. An icy wind was blowing and clouds kept blocking the sun, so it actually wasn't very pleasant to be outside.

Annabelle and Pete

She took lots of photos of the kitties.... don't they fit in well with the Fall color scheme? :)

country road

After lunch we drove to a pretty area up on the hill above our farm. There are some very picturesque country roads to be photographed, which surround a lovely little lake.

Lovely light

Being inside the car was much more pleasant than being out in the cold wind and by that time the clouds had dispersed a little.

Here's the lovely lake at the top of the hill

Long shadows

Colorful leaves

We drove back along a road which looks over the valley where our farm is nestled, down below that tree line. It can't be seen from up here......

.....but the view of the valley is wonderful! Posted by Picasa

I really got lucky this morning and was able to post whole pictures!!
So I'm feeling blessed by Blogger :)

I'm home with laryngitis after developing a sore throat last Friday night. I didn't think being out in the cold would actually give you a cold, but it's happened to me a few times in the past, so who knows? Perhaps I was already coming down with the bug and the timing was just coincidental.
The upside is it's giving me a bit of time for blogging, and that's always welcome!
It's another rainy day here in upstate NY!!!

Kerri,
Your photos show the fall colors so beautifully. We have very little color other than in the grape vineyards which I posted.
How nice that you got to meet in real life with Judith. I peeked at her photos and she's very talented!
We are truly going to do that some day!
I'm so sorry your throat is sore. Maybe you should try Horizon's hot toddie??
Take care of yourself and get well soon!
((hugs))

Your pictures are great..even the ones without Fall colour have the most beautiful skies.
We had a tortoiseshell cat like yours many years ago, and we always called her our Hallow e'en cat.
I hope you feel better soon.

Just gorgeous photos, Kerri! Love so much the view and the warm color!

How nice that you got to meet Judith in real life! I would love to meet you and Judith in person, too! That's amazing, because I thought to tell you and also to Judith about you both (as I know you both live in Upstate NY.) But I forgot to tell you that, but I am so glad that she come over to your farm and meet you. Sounds you and Judith had a great time together!

Did you know that my husband (many years ago) was student at University of New York and he had a great professor, and the professor is Judith Polakoff’s father-in-law! This world is so little!!!

I hope you feel better soon!

You know, you could lose those kittens in the autumn leaves!

I love the scenery even if many of the leaves have actually fallen. I especially love that last one - the view of the valley.

I'm glad you and Judith finally got to meet and enjoy time together - her sharing her photography knowledge and you, your wonderful countryside.

Now, if you could only have decent winters, I could move to Upstate NY. I would NEVER complain about the rain in summer, but I'd never leave the house in winters whilst there was snow on the ground, either.

Kerri - thanks so much for sharing a little more of your surroundings; it all helps build a more complete mental picture of you and your life in this most beautiful part of the world.

It looks like you and Judith found plenty of fall color to shoot. The pictures are lovely.

How nice that you met a blogging friend. I've noticed a lot of that happening lately (bloggers meeting each other). I bet you never thought when you started blogging that you would actually meet some of your readers!

Isn't it nice that you can connect with a fellow blogger who lives near. That's how I feel about Rachel of Sliding Through Life. She lives about an hour from me too.

Your pictures are lovely. We are still very green here as you can see from my post today of our fallen trees.

I'm on my way to check out the link above. Hope the sun comes out and that you are feeling better by now. The new study on colds is back to the notion that, you can catch a cold from being cold.

Judith's pictures are absolutely beyond beautiful. I can only dream of taking pictures like that and it makes me want to try harder myself.

Hi Kerri,

wonderful fall photos all along your blog! I love the fall colors of leaves and when the sun shines on them at let them all glow.

Initially I came along to invite you to a rose tea party over at my blog today, to celebrate my new house-garden-blog name, but seeing you suffer under a laryngitis you should probably stay in bed, shouldn't you? Hope your feeling better soon! xox

Sigh.... I think that was my "fix". Its been over 25 years since we've lived in New England, but around this time of year there's this craving. I think your pictures helped satisfy it. smile.

I love the ones titled Long Shadows andthe carpet in Lovely Light especially. They're all wonderful and stir up feelings of nostalgia. Thanks!

It is so neat that you two found each other and live so close. I have always thought how nice it would be to meet other blogging friends. You two took beautiful pictures and thank you for the walk. Liveing in Florida I miss out on the beauty of autum.

Some lovely colours in your trees, our autumn is not so well advanced. Its turned unseasonably warm, so we may have green trees till Christmas at this rate. Good job I am booked for Kyoto, Japan in a few weeks. The acers and maples there should be lovely, if I have timed it right.

Thanks for sharing these photos - I am also enjoying the fall colors but have not been so lucky with blogger - it is only letting me post one photo and that takes nearly an hour
Will be watching for more of the happenings in upstate NY

Fantastic photos Kerri. I'd be surprised if you didn't get a couple of postcard publishers chasing you for a couple of those - absolutely magnificent.

Thanks for your comments. I've been falt out lately too just trying to get back in to the swing of life after our holidays. Good to see how you're going and I hope your sore throat clears up soon.

Absolutely breathtaking photo's love the country road . You would lose kitty if they played in all those fallen leaves on the roadside. Nice you could catch up with Judith living so close.
Hope your feeling a lot better

The 'Country Road' photo is so compelling, Kerri! Like LindaA in Florida, says, "there's this craving"! Your post is a wonderful gateway to the colors for those of us who spent many years where the leaves turn, but now live far away. I'll have to come back and walk your autumn avenue again and again.

How cool is that!!! Your fall shots are lovely. I especially like the top one and the one on the lake. The light is beautiful! I wish I could have come with you two! What a fun day. Judith does take amazing photos and is so helpful when I ask questions. Thank you too Kerri for all the kind comments you leave on my blog. I really appreciate them!

Thanks for taking us on that journey to the country side, I enjoyed the fall photos a lot!

You are right, my topinambur looks like those Helianthus Lemon Queen but it's not the same. Unfortunately, I did not find them on Sigrun's blog. Oh, we had a delicious soup made of topinambur for lunch today.

Hope you get well soon, I just recovered from a bad cold ans sore throad, too.

Have a relaxing week-end!

Hi Keri,
I'm here via Sue's blog. I'm so excited. Your pictures are beautiful and bring back so many memories. My husband and I were born and raised in NY and moved to upstate NY when our children were little. We lived in a little dairy farming community called Truthville. It was wonderful. I'm going to add you to my bloglines and visit often. I'm so glad I found your blog.

Hi again Keri,
Thanks so much for visiting and for you sweet comment. The closest town of any size is Glens Falls. We were very close to the Vermont border. I could see the Green Mountains from my kitchen window. Lake George is also in that area.
We are originally from Peekskill, NY. That's right on the Hudson River not very far from West Point and those beautiful Bear Mountains.
We really did love Truthville, but the winters began to just be too much for us. My husband has health problems, so we headed for warmer "climes." We are in Texas now and have gotten to love it here too. The people are just wonderful.
We visited Letchworth on a school trip once. It is beautiful, but I didn't remember how beautiful until I saw your pictures.
I am so happy to have made a new friend. This is the part of blogging I never expected and now appreciate more than anything else. This is a very special group of women. I love it!!
