Remember the Color?

With nothing but a vast expanse of white covering the garden and surrounding countryside for weeks on end here in upstate NY I've turned to the computer for solace. It's not that I don't find the snowy scenes beautiful to look at, but sorting through last year's garden photos has been a wonderful spirit lifter and has fed my craving for color.
A myriad photos were left unposted so I thought I'd share a few with you, as you just might be suffering from color deprivation too if, like me, you live in a cold climate.

Only about five more weeks and spring will be here!

Crocuses will open their lovely blooms to the sunshine about the time of the vernal equinox.

The kitties can't wait to spend time outside in the warm air.
Jasmine spends a lot of time dreaming as she looks out the window....when she's not sleeping.

I can't wait to see the bees again!

Daffodils and Scilla will follow closely around the beginning of April.

And we'll see that glorious afternoon light shining through their yellow petals.
(Now I'm humming "These are a few of my favorite things". See what I mean? Aren't you beginning to feel better?) Posted by Picasa

We'll see pale yellow Primroses!

Hyacinths with their sweet perfume.
Tree climbing weather!

Hannah will again be my shadow...tiptoeing through the tulips.

Love those pinks and purples! Posted by Picasa

There will be green pastures as far as the eye can see.

And bold Tulips reaching for the sun. Posted by Picasa

Crabapple blossoms to delight the eye.

Fences to delight Hannah! Posted by Picasa

Bleeding Hearts, Arabis, Hostas and Forget-me-nots....

....soft spring pastels.

The delicious scent......

.....of Lilacs.

Lipstick pink tulips mixed with white....

....and a few other sunshine colors. Posted by Picasa

Poppies following shortly after.
Their fern-like leaves are lovely with the tulips.

Creeping Phlox are perfect with the soft pink tulips.

Poet's Daffodil...exquisite. Posted by Picasa

Pansies - pretty, smiling faces.

Columbines will fill the Fence Garden.....

....along with lovely white Lupines.

Purple Lupines will stretch toward the sky in the Driveway Garden. Posted by Picasa

Elegant Irises will bloom beside Columbines in the Lilac Garden.

Foxglove will make fairy hats.

Peige and Phoebe will venture from the barn to follow me through the garden and sit on the Lily Garden fence
where
Catchfly and Siberian Iris will bloom again, hopefully with an overwintered snapdragon, as they did last year.

Tiger Swallowtail butterflies will enjoy the Catchfly and then lead me on a merry chase. Posted by Picasa

Ah, yes, I remember the color well.

We have so much to look forward to!
Just keep dreaming for a few more weeks.....

This is just what I needed to see this morning. I am so looking forward to this time of year. This winter has been a dilly. My color starved eyes are soaking up all this color. Can't hardly wait.

Only five weeks away? I guess I can make it that long. We are getting so much bright sun, that I am really getting into the gardening mode. I am watching the snow level fall on the mail box post, and believe it or not, even as cold as it has been at night, it is falling.

That shot with the barn in the background is my favorite of this lot.

Wishing you a great weekend.

This is a perfect post for winter-weary gardeners! And a lovely reminder of things to come. Thank you soooo much for brightening things up, even if it is only on the computer screen, for a few more weeks anyway!

I dunno, Kerri; I have my doubts spring will find MY garden til about May! We have so much snow, it's simply absurd. But these photos gave me heart that we'll make it through. We always do...

Those are some beautiful photographs! I'm also anxious for spring to get here. Winter has been too cold, even in the South...

Ah yes, I do remember color. It's been way too long, so thanks for reminding me with your lovely photographs. *sigh* I miss it! Brown is a color, right?

Oh dear, here I am longing for Spring and we haven't even had Autumn and Winter yet!

Your photos certainly bring to light the pleasures and anticipation of Spring, Kerri. Such a welcome change from the pristine whiteness of snow, beautiful though it is. The change is all the more marked for you because of the huge contrast, whereas we usually have some winter colour and greenery which just becomes more intense when Spring arrives.

Still, I shouldn't go wishing for Spring just yet as Autumn is stunningly beautiful in Canberra.

Keep dreaming of Spring, dear Kerri. I just know that you are itching to get down and dirty.

What a wonderful way to cheer us all up from a long, cold winter! :-)

Hope all is well with you. We actually had sunshine and warm temps today! Hooray!

'color deprivation'- l hear you!! BRING ON THE SPRING!
Your photographs are superb Keri- you have a good eye and you give me great ideas for my garden.
Our Crocus are out now, snowdrops and the wee primrose are trying. The yellow gorse has started to open - l always think of March as a yellow month over here.
Bests for now ;)

Oh, I hate to wish my life away but I am looking at past pictures to get me through the white carpet phase of gardening. These pictures will pull us into spring. Enjoy the day.

Hey Kerri -

Love the pictures but hate you. I live in a condo and would kill to have so much beauty in my world.

But I really do envy the lupines. I grew up in Sydney where it didn't get cold enough and now I live in Kansas where it gets too hot to grow them. Try to savor every flower spike.

However I can grow peonies. I always try to dwell on the positive in my life.

Thaks for a beautiful post Kerri. I too am craving the lovely colors and the warm sun. We are told to expect snow again this week. I am praying not.
Sorry to hear your husband is ill and yes, I certainly will keep him in my prayers and you too.
God bless.

Oh, you're making me want it even MORE, Kerri! I'll be watching for the snowdrops you sent to me! They were so beautiful last year! Of course I think of you when they're blooming!

And you say these are the leftovers from your banquet of colors, Kerri?

This is a gorgeous post, and you have the advantage over us who don't have such long, white winters. Even as you gaze at the snow, you know someday you'll have real tulips, crocus, lilacs to smell, bleeding hearts to cut for vases, big lupines and crabapple blossoms, hostas galore and forget-me-nots. None of those plants like our weather so we'll only see them in pictures ;-]

Hang in there kiddo - your spring will be beautiful!
