Bloom Day Preview

Time has been short this week.
We've had our VBS (Vacation Bible School) program going each night since Sunday at church, with the closing program tonight.
The weather feels like fall, with cool temperatures, foggy mornings and nights, and rain every day. Tuesday was the only totally dry night for our VBS activities, but luckily, the kids don't seem mind a little rain. We've had a few sunny periods in between the showers and thunderstorms, but I've only managed to fit in a couple of hours of gardening this week, and there's been very little opportunity for taking photos.
The gardens are looking very soggy and rather bedraggled...all in all, not very photogenic.
I hope to catch up tomorrow and do a more extensive post, but for tonight, here are just a few shots of what's blooming.

The Golden Glow held up surprisingly well, without toppling over in the rain, until just the past few days, when we had some very heavy downpours, with hail a couple of times. A few of the tall stalks have fallen now and I'll have to tie them up tomorrow.

That's pretty Willow sitting at the base of the Golden Glow, with a bit of Cerise Queen Achillea (yarrow) blooming beside her. Posted by Picasa

Those creamy yellow lilies have finished their bloom now, but everything else in this photo (taken on August 7th) is still blooming.

Catherine Woodbury is still blooming, and the pink garden in the background has snapdragons, phlox, and a few other pretty blooms.

The containers have taken a beating from all the rain, but some of them are still looking good. The Gloriosa Daisies continue to be bright spots of color in the gardens. Posted by Picasa

I like this combination with the coleus echoing the yellow.

As always, I love your tall yellow flowers against that picturesque red barn. Despite your chilly weather, everything looks glorious to me. I'll trade you some of our unending summer for your early fall, deal?

I know what you mean about the rain. It's been the bane of my garden this year (our entire summer has been like your past week, except the temperatures have been up and down). Your containers are still looking so pretty.

Hi Mummy,
We're back from San Fran and STILL jetlagged. Your gardens are lovely, even when soaked with rain. xo

Hi Kerri! The yellows in your garden still say summer. We could use a bit of that rain over here. We've seen next to no rain since end of June. And this week we've warmed up to the 90s. Aacckk! But the tomatoes and peppers are responding--and we're supposed to drop back to the low 80s by Monday. Happy GBBD!

Hi Kerri,
Your flowers may be suffering from too much rain but they still look beautiful.
My own gardens are feeling the effects of the long hot summer and are just looking a bit bedraggled.
Hope all went well with your VBS and you find some time for R&R soon.
love and ((hugs))

It's been very wet here too. But we still have a lot of coulour - just not all those rolling acres and all those enviable views...

Dear Kerri, Even after all the rain and hail I think you have still a very good Bloom Day garden. It looks very pretty. The container look good too lovely matching like the Coleus together with Tagetes. It is such a pleasure planting containers and yours are always especially pretty. My good Neighbour Virginia has just been over and we have exchanged a lot of plants. It is always such fun. Take care. T.

I think your garden looks like you worked in it all week instead of doing volunteer work at church. Your flowers are beautiful. I love the containers, especially that coleus with the yellow.~~Dee

The wet and cold have me depressed. Today is perfect, so far anyway, and I hope that you guys are enjoying it. Yellow does seem to be the color of August, just what we need to cheer us on gray days.

kerri, your garden is looking great! we have had the rain too, but i'm happy i have not had to water! busy summer here, i'm not commenting or blogging as much as i'd like, and i don't have enough time to keep up with the weeding, due to my job.

i wonder if the cool august weather means we will have a long indian summer?

We've had so much rain in the past three weeks that my container plants were beginning to rot. I cut everything back and will fertilize them as soon as they dry out. Your gardens are beautiful, as always.

If that's how your containers look when they're bedraggled, they must be absolutely incredible at their best, because they look great to me. I like the pink garden with the weathered barn for a backdrop. It doesn't sound like pink would go with red, but it looks great together.

The flowers may be a little beat-up, but your foliage is green, green, green, and it sure looks good from here, Kerri.

I hope that even if you don't warm up much...you don't cool down too much either, and enjoy a long and frostfree autumn.

How is your shoulder? Does the damp weather turn you into a weather forecaster against your will?

Magnificent Kerri. I can't tell you how much I admire the wonderful gift you have.

Hi Kerri,

Your containers look very cheery to me. I love seeing your pansies. Do you grow them all summer? Here in zone 8 we won't start planting them until late Sept. or early October.

You may think it looks bedraggled, but to me it is quite lovely.

It's been a very wet summer here too. Your garden may be soggy but it still is very colourful and pretty. BTW I heart Willow!
