Golden Daffodils Galore!

Our gardens are filled with daffodils nodding their bright heads in the breeze, although today and yesterday they were drooping a little at times in the cool April showers. We had some dry periods too, so that I was able to get outside with my camera and have a little fun.

These are King Alfred daffodils.

The grass is turning green and beginning to grow. Soon it'll be time to get out the lawn mower and weed wacker. I need to do some trimming around this garden already.

The blue of the Scilla Sibirica makes a pretty contrast with the yellow.

I like these white daffs with the yellow centers too.

Jasmine can't wait to get outside these days, now that the temperatures have warmed up a bit. They actually haven't been particularly warm this week, with a chilly wind blowing sometimes.

This is Tink. I couldn't get her to smile :)

The cats love to play in the gardens, much to my frustration. You know how they like to be close by :)

This is Finnegan. Toby and Murphy are in the other garden.

And now Murphy is in the Lilac bush with Tink.

I'd love to properly capture the sunlight shining through the daffodils at twilight. It's truly a golden glow! I wish you could see it. This photo doesn't do it justice. It's my favorite time of the day to look out and see the daffodils reflecting the beautiful fading rays of light. Posted by Picasa

The perennials will grow up and cover most of the daffodil foliage while it feeds the bulb for next year. It will fade away between June and July. Sometimes I put a rubber band around the clumps after the flowers are finished, to keep them from falling over on neighboring plants and help them look a little tidier.

These daffs are growing in the little fence garden at the bottom of the driveway. I've seen a lot of mole activity in this garden and getting rid of them is on my list of jobs to do.

Jasmine is always a big help, of course! Posted by Picasa

There are hyacinths opening in the gardens further up, but I'll save those for another post.

It's been a very busy week with working at school, plus time spent at the nursery. I got a little work done in the gardens, but not as much as I would've liked. Very soon it'll be time to plant window boxes and containers. My hubby has been plowing, dragging and picking rocks, getting the ground ready to plant corn and hay crops. He's also been enjoying himself using the sawmill whenever he has time.
I'm hoping and praying for more sunshine and warmer temperatures during the coming week. We have more rain predicted, but there'll be some sun in between according to the weather man.
Good!!
I hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

Daffodils are without a doubt my favorite flower. Could it be because they signal spring in about here?

Kerri,
I have never seen such lush and plush daffs as you have! Simply stunning! I think Scilla are the perfect contrast.

Good morning dear Kerri:-)

It's such a gorgeous day today and I've just come in from outside...my daffodils are just about ready to open! Yeaaaa! lol I so enjoyed seeing all the pictures of your daffodils...how glorious they are!! My daffodil patch is very small at the moment as this is only their first year...I'm hoping that in a few years I'll have tons of them:-) I especially love that one picture of Jasmine in the middle of the daffodils..such a perfect shot! Have a beautiful day my friend! xoxo

Kerri,
I'm glad that we're in different climate zones so that I can once again enjoy the daffodils. Yours are so very lovely and plentiful!!
Jasmine posing amongst them is just an adorable shot. Kitties and flowers, what could be cuter??
Are you still having rain? We can trade midweek as we're going from hot to rain then (they say)
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!
xoxo

Just beautiful Kerri. Oh I wish I had your green thumb. How about coming down here to Texas and doing a little gardening with me. I love the pictures of the kitties in the flowers. They are adorable.
Have a wonderful day.

Can there be anything more cheering at the end of a long winter than the golden glow of daffodils? Yours look so good that I'm sure they cheer up the entire North East region of the USA!

The blue and yellow look so good together (Canberra sporting colours, actually).

Are any of the trees showing signs of bursting into leaf?

Jasmine is so cute in the daffodils...I posted a pic the other day but mine were damaged by the bad weather so a few brown spots :(

I can remember racing to the back of our garage where the sun beat down and the small patch was sheltered from the wind.. SO anxious for those first few green shoots of the daffodils. Could spring be very far behind. I could almost smell that wonderful thawing ground and fresh daffodil fragrance.. One of my all time favorites.. thank you

WOW, that's a lot of daffodils! The bright yellow are my favorite. They are blooming like crazy in my area too so I've decided mine must be duds. But most everything else shows signs of life. Today was lovely, if you were someplace sheltered. The end of the week sounds like it will be great.

Your daffodils and your kittens look right at home in your garden. Thanks for the tip on putting a rubber band on the daffs...that really is a neat way to keep them looking neater and out of the way from my hubby's weedeater.

Were these pictures taken with your new camera?

Those are so pretty. How many cats do you have? It must be so beautiful there. Kerri, I lost count of how many times I HAD (yes, had!) to make the eclair cake, this evening we went to a friend's and I was told to take it! So I garnished with strawberries on top... sooo yummy!

Your yard looks so lovely.
You say you plant the periennials right in there, hu? And they come up and cover the spring foliage? That's a good idea...

Happy May Day!
God bless.
Terri

Your gardens are beautiful Kerri! My daffs are just green at this point not up enough for buds yet. I love all the pics of the kitties. Mine like to be with me when I am out around the gardens too and are good company. You take great pictures!

What a difference a week makes. We have a Finnegan also! I will post a picture. Our Lily looks like your Jasmine. Your cat pictures are beautiful as are your flowers.

You've been on that farm for quite awhile, haven't you, Kerri! I don't know how many bulbs you planted when you started the beds, but there must be thousands of them now ~ no wonder you turned out to be a daffodil on the "What Flower Am I" quiz. You even look a little like a daffodil in your photos.

I'm so glad you're finally enjoying spring.

Kerri, you can really capture the nature around your environment perfectly! I love seeing your cats in your photos too. These are all worthy of greeting cards!
I have trouble with bulbs. I had deer eat tulips, etc. over the years.

I just had a breath of Springtime visiting you. Your flowers are lovely.

I am pretty sure I saw a smirk on Tink's face.lol

Take care,
Connie

Hi Kerri!

I am so glad to see that finally spring has come to you as well!

We are almost entering into summer here, due to the warm weather we had in April, Mother Nature is about 3 weeks ahead compared to "normal" years. I wonder if this is the change of the climate?

Have a great week-end and happy gardening!

Hugs, Anita

Kerri......I wish I had just a little knowledge of flowers. I enjoy all your beautiful pictures and I would love to live next door and learn a think or two about the garden and flowers from you. Like the kitten siting in the garden.

Cats and daffodils, what could be better? Love the photos, Kerri. I'm back into garden blogging again (including the visiting, which I haven't been keeping up with lately). I also love your "Real Moms" entry. I did one not too long ago, too, but not on my gardening blog.

Oh so wonderful to see spring in it's full beauty now in your garden Kerri!:) I love all your daffodils & scillas and your cats enyoing themselves! It was more summer like weather here in Nothern Germany for the last 44 days, not a drop of rain and that in spring, can you imagine? My garden is very forwarded, I think at least 5 weeks ahead than in normal years. Well now Sunday night it has finally started to rain again and it seems as if there is no stopping it. Have a fab week & lots of joyful gardening! Carol xox
