Cheerful Crocus

The crocuses are blooming!

We had a beautiful day last Tuesday and I managed to get out in the garden after work and do some spring clean-up.

What bliss to feel the warm sunshine on my shoulders and smell the fresh air! If nothing else, our long, cold winters make me fully appreciate the warmer weather when it finally comes.

I've been trying out the new camera and having fun with it. There's so much to learn and I'm feeling a bit inadequate. I need to have patience and realize that I can't learn everything at once. How nice it would be to wave a magic wand and know it all immediately!

But perhaps that would take away the fun aspect.

The crocuses were so bright and cheerful on Tuesday, but not so now after several dreary days, with bitterly colds winds and frigid temperatures. It feels like we're back in February! We've had snow flurries for several days, but not enough to accumulate any snow on the ground. Others haven't been so lucky. Apple told me they had a foot of new snow on Friday, and they've had more since, with still more to come tomorrow!

As we headed out into the cold this morning after choir practice a friend remarked that her grandfather used to say, "Spring's caught cold!" A perfect way to put it!

Unlike Tuesday's perky blooms, the poor crocus blossoms and snowdrops are now all drooping and sad, but I've seen them bounce back before.

Hopefully, even though more cold temperatures are predicted, we'll have a little sunshine during the spring break, and the blossoms with perk up again.

The daffodils are budding and it shouldn't be long before we see their bright, happy yellow faces again. I can't wait!

Ross has been busy putting compost on all the gardens for me. Until this year I've had to do it myself because he was always at work, and therefore, not much got spread around. He used the Bobcat skid-steer loader and got the job done much quicker and easier than I ever could. I hope my plants will express their gratitude by growing like crazy! Posted by Picasa

Pretty crocuses. I have bulbs that bloom every year next to the house we bought, but I don't know what they all are. I also don't know what I am supposed to do with the dead leaves every spring, so I cut most away and leave a little groundcover. It seems to work...this year as I finally have a cmera too (yay!) I'll snap photos and post them and ask for help...what is this flower, and what do I do to care for it????

Happy Easter Kerri! Nice to have you back, your flowers look so pure and beautiful, I don't think I had ever seen crocuses before, I believe they do not grow here. What camera did you get? I'm still trying to learn and read my camera's manual, I like to read when we're travelling, I focus on one mode for trip and practice it, it takes a while though, it has so many features!

Lovely crocuses, Kerri! I am so glad to learn that spring is finally coming to your place, too! Unfortunately, I cannot see most of your photos, there are just red crosses on my screen?!!

We are now enjoying more and more blooming tulips in the garden. Due to the warmish weather we had during the past weeks, nature is about 3 weeks ahead compared to the previous years.

A blessed Easter to you and your family!

Greetings from Germany,
Anita

Beautiful crocus. What a thrill it must be to see their colourful blooms popping up through bare cold soil. Just when you thought winter would last forever, here come the crocus to bring you hope of Spring and warmer weather.

Your crocus' are beautiful Kerri and I see that you are doing just fine with your new camera.

My flowers got hit by snow and freezing weather and it looks like a disaster area around our house and throughout the neighborhood. Green has turned to black & brown and my beautiful azalea buds have all turned a crusty brown also. I didn't bother to look at the fruit trees because I knew I would be very upset. Thank God we always have a next year.

I hope that you had a Happy Easter with family & friends.

The purple crocuses are my favorite! Beautiful photos!

My crocuses are already spent. The daffodils have had a hard time with the crazy weather we have been having.

We had snow on Easter! It didn't stick to the ground. Nevertheless, it was too cold for the grandchildren to hunt eggs outside.
So we hid the eggs in the house.

We are expecting a wet, spring snow on Friday! Ugh!

Kerri,
Those are beautiful! I love bulbs, but unfortunately it's not easy to grow them in this tropical climate. First, because they don't have the cold Winters they need; second, because there are so many little creatures that love their exotic flavors... The Dutch grow all kinds of bulbs and many other exotic flowers and plants in the little town of
Holambra
, where there's an annual flower festival, Expoflora (this site is only in Portuguese), which is worth visiting!

The pictues of the crocuses are just beautiful! We are expecting snow again tonight so I guess we'll be set back again. I will just enjoy looking at yours and hopefully have some in a few weeks. You really do take beautiful pictures I enjoy every one of them. Guess I'll have to post some more snow pictures tomorrow. :-(

By now the crocus are either in better shape, or buried in snow again - Kerri, I'm almost afraid to look at blogs in New York or Michigan or Wisconsin! You're having such a long winter, and we've only had near misses. Maybe I'm feeling survivor guilt?

Your crocus are so thick and established looking - really wonderful colors in huge clumps!

The crocus are lovely. We returned from the south two days ago and I ran into the garden to see if any crocus had bloomed, but they were just beginning to send up a few green stems. Of course, today we are getting more snow, so I guess it will be a few more days until I'm able to look for them again. Sigh! It's been a very long winter. BTW, we passed through the southern part of your area on our way back home and I thought of you!

Cheers,Giddy

It looks like you're doing just fine with the new camera. The photos are lovely! Your blooms are also much further along than ours; only the snowdrop flowers have popped in my garden so far. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your garden bloom, Kerri. Happy Easter!
